Local Republicans Hook Themselves to Obama, In Arizona!

A version of this piece appeared on Rum, Romanism and Rebellion.

What has been funny to me in this election is the number of Republicans in various states that have been trying to associate themselves with Barack Obama. When these guys are in Oregon or Massachusetts, we ain't exactly suprised. But what if they were candidates running in one of the most conservative parts of John McCain's own state?

Check out this piece being sent to folks in Arizona's District 21 by the incumbent legislators. Actually, before you click on it, consider the following: the East Valley district has a 42 - 27 Republican advantage, and the two Republican legislators that represent the area, Warde Nichols and Steve Yarbrough, combined for over 60% of the vote in the 2006 election. Both Nichols and Yarbrough are staunch conservatives. Nichols official legislative page says:

During Representative Nichols’ four years as a state legislator, he has worked diligently in support of traditional marriage and family values. He is a strong supporter of pro-life issues and continues to fight to lower the tax burden and protect property rights of citizens of Arizona.

Yarbough's page has similar brags.

Now check out the piece. Look at bullets three and four:

No mention, by the way, of the Arizonan that is running for president.

How bad off are things for the Republicans that even the most conservative of them want to brag about how much they love Napolitano (she's probably wondering where that love during the legislative session) and...um...Barack Obama? What next? Will McCain need to run anti-Obama robocalls here? Oh wait...
